read a hand-wringing article in the "new york times" magazine (is there any other kind?) concerning the problem of canadian bears straying into human habitats. as the article says, deterrence doesn't always work. hence the occasional need to shoot them. i disagree.
now i'm especially fond of some canadians, but facts are facts. there are quite a lot more canadians than bears. so if there's any shooting to be done, they should shoot the canadians and spare the bears. common sense, innit?
this one (pictured) is hiding from mormons buzzing his front doorbell. when the coast is clear he'll saunter back in and finish watching that episode of "futurama" he taped last night.

america junior? oh dear, that'll get you into trouble. and shoot us? pah on you!
there are black bears here. there's no denying it. they're actually in a park not far from where i grew up. nothing like peddling your bike home from a sailing lesson to see a sign warning you about black bears and then realizing you're the only piece of dessert on the bike path.
it takes a lot though, at least here, to shoot a bear dead. they'll usually tranq it then shuttle it west. there was a cougar caught not too far from where i live, cougar's in the old neighborhood, coyotes too, a pissed off badger on my old block when we were walking to elementary school. if you head to the tourist trap west of me you'll see elk on the streets.nature's all around. and all in all i'd rather see a bear then some of the poisonous, not so easy to see critters you have. a bear, at least, can't hide in your shoe and kill you with a little bite.
now if i can just see a wolf outside the zoo.
wow. what a novel.
"america junior" comes from "the simpsons". hmm. well, by way of compromise, why don't we spare the bears and the canadians and shoot the indians instead? what novel?
Makes complete sense - shoot the canadians!
How are you CS? Not heard about how you are doing for a bit. What's new with you?
