obscure as it is, melbourne is still one of the coffee capitals of the world. that's why starbucks does such lousy business here. but it wasn't always this way. we used to be tea-drinkers. why the change? well, we aren't as culturally cosy with the english anymore. but, mostly, it's all the italians' doing. they instilled the espresso taste and established the café culture. and, believe me, we're all jolly grateful.
and as i was thinking of italian things...
things italians do well: coffee, art, architecture, scooters, food, clothes, cities, religion, attitudinizing, lassitude.
things italians don't do well: sport, government, tv, music (except monteverdi), war, suburban villas, cars, men.
please remind me if i've omitted anything.

They don't do beer well. The leather is good, and should rate a mention.
They do actors well. Think of Sophia Loren. And then Cage, Pacino, De Niro, Coppola. All Italians.
They also do criminals better than most. Mafia, 'Ndrangheta, blah blah blah.
Surprisingly accurate.
Two things you forgot: Lamborghini and Maserati actually make some cool cars from time to time.
And Italian men are world champions at flirting.
Oh, and good things are also wine and train connections.
surprising?
wine is in entailed in "food". you're french, you know you can't have one without the other.
ok. transport and flirting are in. but not cars. ferraris and the like are (1) unaffordable, and (2) for teenagers who never grew up. stupid things.
you're french, you know you can't have one without the other.
good point! ;)
They do crime and corruption quite convincingly...
