drying out

what is it about women that makes them so susceptible to dehydration? why do they need such constant constant moisturizing? is it a chemical imbalance?

I don't moisturize! I'm too scared my skin will become relient on it.

It's having thinner skin than men. One layer less.

really? women are one dermis short? is that what science says? then why do women just smear their faces (and sometimes their elbows), and not all over?

I have no idea, actually. If that's the case, it's probably because of all the scrubbing.

Women are just poor frail little things.

You can't understand.

(By the way, most women I know put moisturizer all over. Or at least on their legs - irritated by waxing/shaving -, shoulders, breasts, neck and face.)

I moisturize because I live in an area taunted with cool weather, high altitude and dry winters. If I don't lather up...I look like I'm flaking apart.

chloé. what about women's backs? if they don't moisturize there, what's to stop them peeling off?

actually it all happened this way. was reading the melbourne equivalent of "le monde". attention caught by long, stupid article blaming women's unhappiness - dieting, make-up puchasing, worrying about aging, constant moisturizing etc - on "large corporations" (who else?). that's crazy, i thought. it isn't corporations which make women miserable. it's other women.

Not true. there is a system of rewards / punishment applied according to degree of beauty (or lack of), and this isn't necessarily attributed to "other women"

what a revelation. beautiful people have an easier path through life. i'd have never guessed.

that's the fault of human nature. human nature. not the market economy.

Well, I guess you need moisturizing where your skin has been attacked. Your face with all the anti acne washes, your legs with all the hair removing, and so on. And then your skin gets addicted to it.

Given that you rarely worry about your back looking better, it is just happy and content as it is.

Even though I remember a pretty painful episode of cold and dry winter when the skin in by back was pulling hard and I had to try and put moisturizer between my shoulder blades to relieve the itching. Fun!

But don't think I disagree with the core of your message. I'm just being witty ;-)
