now that betty

has declared the start of summer—a little hastily i think—i rolled down to the off license to stock up on some suds. though i seldom drink myself (thai food is the usual occasion), the rest of the country is pretty gung-ho about it. which is a good thing, i think. it's yet another reason why we're better than the muslims who, blockheads that they are, aren't allowed to drink. at all. how miserable.

so while browsing the aisles i made a mental note of the best summer beers on the market. here are the top 8:

pilsner urquell (czech)
staropramen premium lager (czech)
blue tongue pilsener (new south wales)
little creatures pilsener (western australia)
kronenbourg 1664 (france)
budweiser budvar (czech)
the german one whose name i can't remember
snowy mountains pilsener (new south wales).

all these small subsidiary breweries like little creatures (which is owned by lion nathan) are the best thing to happen to the domestic beer market. but i still think the original czech pilsens are a little bit better.

odd thing, though. the oz beers are more expensive than the imported stuff. can't figure it.

Yum, Czech beer! And to think: when I lived there I didn't drink beer. A complete shame--and another reason to hurry back, I think.

if it's not prague, then it's the beer, that will bring you together.

Sure....talk about summer now that I'm stuck wearing long sleeves and shivering whenever I leave the house.

Awfully selfish of you ;). Send some sun my way.

betty. well if your weatherology is correct, what happened to spring? did it get stage fright or something? or don't you get the full complement of seasons up there? also please tell your home town lizards to price their brews more moderately. you can't win beer friends and inebriate people at blue tongue prices.

mel. but you've got snow. real snow. the powdery stuff. we have to go to new zealand for that. very inconvenient.

Snow is very much overrated. Although, I suppose we never appreciate what we have right in front of us. Just imagine driving on a highway to work every morning surrounded by idiots.

i don't perceive the connection between snow and idiots. though snowless, i always think other motorists are also idiots. sure you're not frowny because you can't wear heels in deep snow?
