it is a fact universally acknowledged

that every sentient person likes elizabeth bennett. but i didn't realise how closely some women identify with her. what else can explain this vehement dislike of poor, pushing mr collins? unless it be that they are imagining themselves the object of his desperate, simpering affections? in which case i understand their queasiness. to me he is simply wonderful comic relief. absurd, but not odious.

I find him absurd indeed - but if he was pursuing me - repugnant would be the word that comes to mind. And feckless.

not assiduous? insistent?

assiduous - yes. But that doesn't make it necessarily a good thing. To be so unaware of other's regard - and yet carry on despite that.... feckless.

mr collins thinks very highly of mr collins. i expect he thinks the rest of the world shares his good sense. he thinks every woman fancies him. which is why is (intially) so serenely confident.

So will you be following his lead? Unwarranted confidence?.....lol
